STUDYING BIOLOGY IN ENGLISH

As we decided to follow the European session in Lycée Prieur, we have 1h30 per week of science taught in English by Mrs LABAUNE, a biology teacher. I am going to tell you all the themes that we have studied this year :

  • theme one : what is a body made of ? Example of the vertebrates

Lesson one : what is a vertebrate ?

Lesson two : Let’s learn more about the anatomy of vertebrates

Lesson three : what does the microscope reveal ?

  • theme two : what does an animal organism need to develop and get renewed ?

Lesson one : animals need food

Lesson two : animals need to breathe

Lesson three : what is a balanced diet made of ?

Lesson four : the importance of eating well

During two sessions we played a game about animals. We had a picture which represented an animal and the other pupils had to make us guess which animal it was. It was very funny !

Besides, during our trip to England, we visited the NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM of London. The latter houses collections of life and earth sciences (approximately 70 millions of specimens ! Can you believe it ?). This amazing museum is well- known for its entrance hall dominated by the skeleton of a diplodocus and for the exhibition of skeletons of dinauraurs. The museum houses five major collections in the following areas :

-botany

-entomology

-mineralogy

-paleontology

-zoology

We are so lucky to learn English outside the English class. It is definitely a plus for us in our mastering of Shakespeare’s language !

Hi, what’s up everyone? 😀

On thursday, November 24th, the European Classes, in the company of the Literary Class, came to l’Empire, the cinema of Auxonne, to watch an English play. Indeed, EITC actors came especially for us in order to show us their play « On the Docks ».

What are they talking about?? What is EITC??

Let us explain everything. EITC is an irish theatre company which acts only in France and Belgium in front of bilingual students to let them improve their English. They want us to have fun with plays full of comedy, of actions, in which they’re singing… That’s amazing!

By the way, come and glance at their website:   http://www.eitc.fr/shows/docks

THE PLOT

Let’s talk about the plot. Everything starts with a girl in distress who’s attempting to jump off the cliff. The sceneis really dramatic with intense music and STOP.

The story goes back to the beginning.

The investigator Mike is arresting a criminal and he learns that his uncle died so he goes back home to attend his uncle’s funeral. Overthere, he’s welcomed by his cousin Ultan, his aunt Bridget and Ultan’s girlfriend Cathy. Ultan dreams of being an architect but his mother wants him to be a fisherman. At the funeral, the fishermen ask Bridget for more safety on the boats after her husbands death but she says NO. Then Ultan disappeared and Mike and Cathy are going to look for him through the island… What is going to happen?

AND ICING ON THE CAKE

Three of our classmates and friends, Lucie, Mathilde and Solene, acted among the actors!!! Among them, Lucie,  gives us her feedback: « An amazing play performed by wonderful persons! Cheerful, funny, kind and dynamic, I spent such a good time by their side. Always smiling, joking, they even managed to make me forget how anxious I was. Before to rehearse our scene, we all played a game in order to relax. Unfortunately, I only got third place… But no matter! It was still a great time! Afterwards, they gave us some advice such as talking loudly, clearly and especially to have FUN!!! »

English breakfast of both 2nd Euro!

Hello ! Today we are going to tell you about our English and American breakfast experience in class. Our teacher organized it to celebrate the European week. So, basically eaceuropean-breakfasth pupil prepared at home a British, American or even Canadian recipe and we had to explain what we cooked, baked or grilled. That was a great moment because we could taste lots of specialities !
First of all, on the American side of the buffet, some classmates prepared brownies, pancakes, cookies, muffins, carrot cake and peanut butter. We all loved American treats ! Next some pupils brought some British recipies like cinamon rolls, scones, crumble, and lemon curd to try on toast … As for the Canadian experience, we could have a go at maple sirop. Our English teacher, Mrs Mottey, prepared some tea and milk in the English style but unfortunately, we did not have a kettle so the tea was just warm and then cold ! Weeuropean-breakfast-groupe-2 had fun mixing American and British specialities : for example we tasted scones with peanut butter and pancakes with lemon curd!
Spicy, sweet, savoury…There were dishes for all tastes ! This breakfast was really tasty !

The End …?

Did you really think that was the end ? Hahahahah no. WE ARE BACK !!! 😀

On the 21st of September 2016, the DreamTeam (well, only Tanguy, Loïc, Lucie and Sarah because we had to be four) went to the « Palais des Congrès » of Dijon to participate to the final  blog competition. It was amazing !!!

First, we arrived around 10:00 a.m. overthere. Clairelle LESTAGE (who organized this competition) welcomed us and led us to a big and scary room where we met the other candidates. She explained us that we had to write an article about « The journalists and the Internet ». We worked from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.. So we started to search informations, to choose a title, pictures, a topic… We decided to write two articles: a French one and an English one. We were helped by Miss Granero and Miss Vadot. We also had to prepare some questions for two journalists that we interviewed at 11:30. It was very interesting.

3:00 p.m.: Verdict. We were so impatient to know the results that we arrived first in the room. Stress. Fear. Anxiety. Everything was there to accentuate suspens.

4th position: Lycée Charles de Gaulle                                         3rd position: Lycée Parc des Chaumes

       One more…

And the 1st position… Lycée La Prat’s.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

So we arrived 2nd. We were a bit disappointed but proud of us. 🙂
