Cultural differences

Hi everyone ! On Wednesday 14th October 2015, the 2nd Euro and 1S pupils attended a great AFS workshop about cultural differences.

Our teacher, Miss Marie Vadot, introduced us Miss Martine Belorgey, an AFS volunteer, responsible for students’ departures abroad, who gave us details about AFS (American Field Service). We met Catherine, our German assistant, Shôko, a Japanese young girl who is welcomed by one of our friend, Alyssa, for the whole year, and Guillaume, a Terminale pupil who spent 10 months in Russia last year.

AFS is an international association which organizes linguistic programmes especially for students (15-18). If you’re interested in AFS, go and visit the site www.afs.org to get more information ! After the AFS presentation, Catherine explained a few things about the German traditions. Then, Guillaume spoke about his trip in Russia and Shôko made a speech in French (It was so cute! Well done !).

We also played a game : we had to write three words about each country (Germany, Japan and Russia) and our foreign guests had to do the same about France. We realized then that some clichés are not true and we’re sometimes prejudiced against, We had a ball ! It was very enriching indeed to learn about our guests’ cultural tips !
