We visited the home of Izieu, which opened in spring 1943 in Izieu in the area, by Zlatin Sabine and her husband. They used to shelter to Jewish children legally until May 1943 to avoid their persecution. There, Izieu children found the right institution and they lived well. 105 children went through Izieu, they were then placed in host families, organizations, or they sent to Switzerland. Beginning in March 1944 Sabine Zlatin was deprived of her main protector sub-perfect, Pierre Marcel Wiltzer. She decided immediately to find families for all children hear Montpellier. The departure of all children was then scheduled for April 11th but April 6th 1944, 44 children took their lunch in the dining room of the house. It was the first day of Easter holidays. That morning, around 8:30, two trucks stopped outside the house. 3 men in civilian clothes, and fifteen soldiers arise got off the vehicles to round up all the occupants of the colony. The operation was performed with speed and brutality. The younger cried shouted. So they boarded the 44 children and 7 adults and only an animator survived the camps.
Later in 1987 at the court trial of Klaus Barbie, Ms. Halaunbrenner testified against him with a son who was 12 years old at the time, because Barbie had taken her husband tortured to death and then he had embarked his eldest son. Mrs. Benguigui also testified as her three boys arrived in Auschwitz while she was there but she escaped while her sons were directly sent into the gas chambers.
